PAUL McCARTNEY
Good Evening New York City
Hear Music

CONGRATULATIONS TO DAVE BECKNER OF MARYLAND, USA FOR WINNING OUR McCARTNEY TRIVIA CHALLENGE AND A COPY OF THE DELUXE EDITION OF THIS SET.

Paul McCartney's new double CD / DVD live set is culled from his 3-night stand to open New York City 's CitiField stadium this past summer. Having been lucky enough to catch a later date in Atlanta , I can tell you that this release isn't only for fans that caught the New York performances. While watching the DVD, I kept having flashbacks to my own night with Paul. It was great to relive such a wonderful experience and I believe that any fans that couldn't make it to an actual gig will enjoy seeing what they missed... (Read more)

KISS
October 17, 2009
Bi-Lo Center
Greenville, SC

“Get up and get your grandma out of here”, Gene Simmons bellowed as he, Paul Stanley, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer took the stage at Greenville, South Carolina's Bi-Lo Center on October 17. Some things never change. There was just as much dry ice, fire, leather, makeup and crushing volume as ever. KISS delivers what the KISS Army wants! ... (Read more)

U2
October 6, 2009
Georgia Dome
Atlanta, GA

U2 brought its absolutely gargantuan U2360 Tour to Atlanta with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer on a piano. The great thing, though, is that U2 have learned to wield their sledgehammer deftly enough that they can overwhelm the senses or gently tap melody, emotion, heart and soul from the expanse of their surroundings...  (Read more)

B.B. King
October 2, 2009
Classic Center
Athens, GA

B.B. King was clearly in a relaxed, jovial mood on this Friday night. He sat at center stage chatting with the crowd as much as he played, if not more. It felt like a family reunion and that's how Mr. King treated the crowd, like family. He told stories about his childhood in Indianola, Mississippi when he was still working in the cotton fields. He told us of failed and successful relationships. He even recommended his favorite make-out music... (Read more)

FLAMING LIPS

EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY

STAR DEATH & WHITE DWARFS

August 26, 2009
Chastain Park Atlanta, GA

Is there any more joyous opening for a concert than The Flaming Lips? Following a nearly literal “birth” to the show, front man Wayne Coyne challenged the set up of Chastain Park by riding his “space bubble” over the hands of the crowd. The first official song hadn't even begun! And when “Race For The Prize”, all heaven broke loose...(Read more)

PAUL McCARTNEY
August 15, 2009
Piedmont Park, Atlanta

“This is the 40th anniversary of Woodstock. I can't think of a better place to be. The spirit of Woodstock lives on.”

Paul McCartney spoke those words early in the evening of August 15, 2009, soon after opening his massive “Green Concert” with his old Beatles hit “Drive My Car” .

With Woodstock, what made the concert so legendary was a confluence of timing, sheer scope, daring and artistry. In that way, so this concert will pass into legend for those tens of thousands in attendance... (Read more)

KISS
Sonic Boom
Kiss Records

Sonic Boom is about the best possible scenario for a 2009 release from a band whose peak came more than 30 years ago. Prior to its release, Sonic Boom was hyped as a “return-to -form”. Everyone assumed it was just the usual hyperbole that precedes any new release, but in this case, the hype was more or less correct... (Read more)

SMOKEY ROBINSON / GLADYS KNIGHT
July 8, 2009
Chastain Park Amphitheatre, Atlanta

Scheduled for only one day after the emotionally draining funeral for Smokey Robinson's “little brother” Michael Jackson, which began with Smokey speaking, many expected this concert to be postponed or cancelled. Instead, the evening was to be a celebration of not only the two artists performing, but of the entire 50 years of Motown Records (which Robinson co-founded). Both artists sprinkled amusing and insightful anecdotes about working with their friends Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Jackson 5 and so many others... KING'S X /
CHRIS McKAY & THE CRITICAL DARLINGS

August 21, 2009
@ The Local
Marietta, GA

By the time King's X took the stage at a little after 10 p.m., the sold-out crowd was ready. These fans were part of the cult. They knew what to expect and they know there's nowhere else to get this if this is what you want. With the exception of the opening song, “Groove Machine”, King's X veered away from their mid-period altogether. They instead chose to focus on their first few years and the most recent material. With 15 albums to choose from (and more than 20 years), they still managed a strong overview... (Read more)

THE MINUS 5 /
The Baseball Project / R.E.M.

September 28, 2009
40 Watt Club
Athens, GA

(R.E.M. HQ Hotlink)

"Monday night's show at the 40 Watt in Athens was one for the ages as Peter and his Minus 5 band mates--Scott McCaughey, Steve Wynn, and Linda Pitmon--treated a spirited crowd to a barnburner of a show, playing two lengthy sets and several encores full of songs from the vast Minus 5, Baseball Project and Steve Wynn catalogs..."
